Re: YZ250f crank. There has been more than one type of failure reported in regards to the Yamaha 250F crank. Both the crank pin and the rod itself have failed. Yamaha's fix was to beef up the crank assembly for '03 and later models. Seems that Yamaha has also come to terms with most of the low hour crank failures that have surfaced.

Replied by redneckmechanics on topic '77 DT 250 Crank bearings. I forgot to mention that i also saw a Yamaha Dt200 that had a similar problem. The flywheel was unbalanced because somebody tried to remove the flywheel by hitting it with a hammer at some point in the life of the bike and managed to damage the crankshaft and the flywheel.

Posts: 130. 1999 kx 250 crank troubles. I just recently purchases a 1999 kx 250 for $550. Needed a top end and I figured since I have done one before to buy it. Well Like I thought might happen the bike needs more work, the crank and rod will have to be rebuilt since theres up down play and side to side play.
